We are all familiar with Lego, from our own childhood and, if we are parents, from the enjoyment our children get from building with these plastic construction toys. However, Legos have changed considerably since many of us were children and now encompass a huge range of themes including the very popular star wars Lego sets and figures, Harry Potter, Sponge Bob and many, many more.
Star Wars Legos were introduced in 1999 and began with sets and figures from the original Lucas trilogy, now called Episodes IV to VI. Episodes I to III were released later as prequels to the original three episodes. Characters and scenes from all the movies have been introduced over the years, the figures being typical Lego shapes with square bodies and heads. For the Star wars series molds were specially made for the heads and special molds for many of the figures were made. Star Wars LEGO Figures are made in a variety of clothes to reflect scenes in the films and include a Darth Vader transformation set in which Anakin Skywalker is transformed into Darth Vader, and Princess Leia in shown in various costumes including her appearance as a half naked slave girl. Light sabers are also included in many of the figures.
In addition to the figures star ships and vehicles are available including Anakin’s famous podrace at Mos Espa and, of course the Millenium Falcon. Imperial AT-STs, X-wing fighters, speedsters, the Death Star and Darth Vader’s TIE fighter can also be bought. A series of location sets from several of the movies is also included to accompany the vehicles that were in the movie. These include The Battle of Endor and Echo Base.
Ultimate collector series are bigger, more intricate models that are much harder to build and designed for adults rather than children. A popular model from this collection is the advanced TIE fighter of the Imperial Navy which a hugely detailed model containing over 700 pieces. It is accurately made with its own display stand and would make a superb centerpiece for your Star wars collection. The cockpit can be opened to reveal intricate detail and the overall color is dark with no out-of-place garish colors to spoil the look.
We have just touched on Star Wars Legos here and, as you can see, there is a huge range. Just about every character and vehicle that appears in the movies is represented and with the location sets almost any scene can be faithfully reproduced. Star wars Legos are hugely popular and great fun with children and adults alike.
