Great Set!

Of all the Lego Star Wars sets I own, this is the best by far.
Pros,
I love how the landing gear come down and the wings go up in synchronized motion. Very fun set to play with, semi-challenging to build.
Cons,
The wing-mounted missile launchers don't shoot very far. It's a bit pricey for what you get.
All in all, I think this set is worth $45, not $55. But still a must have for all LEGO Star Wars fans! |
Very cool but a little challenging

| I got this for my 7-year-old son for Christmas. He was very excited and started putting it together right away. His excitement faded when he had some trouble putting it together. With some adult help he got it built and hasn't taken it apart. He loves it! He flys it around the house and makes it interact with his other Staw Wars Lego sets. The wings move to reconfigure into different positions. And the moveable cockpit is very cool. He said next time he tries to build it it will be easier because he has seen the end result. |

| My son and I had a lot of fun building this toy. He loves building with Lego's. While this one was a little more challenging, when you are done, it is worth the extra effort. It has gears so the wings fold up and down with the center piece when it goes up or down. The only reason I gave it 3 stars for durability is because it is a Lego set, so you do have to be more careful with it. I feel that it was well worth the cost. You won't be disappointed. |
A good challenge for a 9-year-old Lego builder with some experience

This topped my son's Christmas list this year. He's put together more than his fair share of Lego sets, and really wanted this one next. Typically, we leave him on his own to do all the building, and he checks in with us once in a while to show his progress. This time, however, he actually needed a little help.
As another reviewer noted, there are some details that are easy to overlook when putting this together. The place where my son hit a snag was when adding the wings. The diagrams in the manual DO indicate that the pistons are closed when adding the wings, but this fact really ought to be emphasized. Because he overlooked this detail when putting it together, he and I had about 15 minutes of backtracking to figure out exactly what went wrong.
It was a good learning experience...frustration is an important part of solving problems. I just think it's worth pointing out that this is one of the first Lego sets where he experienced that kind of frustration. |
Great model - a little tricky to build

My 6+1/2 year old just finished building this model. He did great on 95% of it, but the wing mechanism has to be carefully positioned in order to have everything work right and I had to help him with this (it took me several minutes to figure out). We place finished models in a display case and that is all this model could handle. It is a little fragile and could be a frustration to a child that wants to work the wing mechanism in play.
For the first time after 5-6 models we came across a missing piece with this model. (I am not sure it was actually missing; it is possible we lost it). I went on line ([...]) and ordered the missing part and we had it in ~7 days at no charge. I was really impressed with the ease of getting the replacement and pleased that this went so smoothly.
My son LOVES Lego Star Wars. We have enjoyed watching him work through the challenges of building them. I am sure he is learning a lot of fine motor dexterity, reading diagrams and learning to imagine 3D structures from different perspectives. There are a few of these models that are really too fragile (i.e. Hail Fire Droid) when assembled, but mostly they are great. |
